With restrictions easing in Victoria, it is a great time to visit Elwood local hotspots and show some love, to support their recovery and revel in all that we have missed! I’ve packed in a lot of activities in the past few weeks of opening, and wanted to share my favorite Elwood local gems for exercise and play. And with the stunning Port Phillip Bay at our doorstep, there really is no need to look any further!
Where to go – Elwood Foreshore
Where else to start! The perfect outdoor fitness spot for a sunny day, the Elwood Foreshore boasts amazing ocean views and ample space for any activity. A popular running or walking path will take you all the way to Brighton if you are looking for a scenic cardio route, and the path separates for cyclists if that is your preferred mode of transport.
The Elwood Farmers Market has also temporarily relocated to the Elwood Foreshore, providing great local produce and a glorious ocean outlook. If you attend on the 2nd or 4th week of the month, I would highly recommend The 3 Bees honey!
Post workout, you can also grab an amazing coffee in the sun at Elwood Bathers, who have extended outdoor seating, perfect for a those endless summer days filled with sea salt and sand.
Sneaky plug here- FemmeFit holds an Elwood Foreshore permit to conduct personal training sessions, so if you are after a great workout pre stroll, run don’t walk to our bookings page.
What to do- visit Ormond Road
The perfect Elwood local hotspot for your post workout brunch! With outdoor seating undulating onto the Elwood Village streets, you are sure to find a sunny spot to enjoy a hot coffee and some eggs on toast your way right in the heart of Elwood.
My favorite for a special treat is Plain Sailing. Their almond latte is unprecedented in the area, and the Moroccan Spiced Cauliflower contains all the nutrients to re-fuel you post exercise.
For that afternoon pick me up, you can’t go past Combi, and the Green Coco Quench will certainly hit the spot on those gloriously warm days.
Last but not least, is the Elwood local institution that is Leaf. Their neighbourly ethos resounds upon entry, in which you are instantly welcomed to a traditional village grocer. They source local, high quality produce, and I find this to be the perfect place to inspire nutritious and unique meals.
Where to eat – Tennyson Street Elwood
A hidden gem in the heart of Elwood not to be missed. This quaint strip of shops offers some great eats off the beaten path. Tuppy’s is another great Elwood local coffee find, and the House of Bread and Pastries next door is amazing for a treat.
Although on the Elwood border, a special mention must be made for Elsternwick Park and St Kilda Botanical Gardens.
On Sunday morning, Elsternwick Park is a crowd favorite for Elwood locals, offering of a large off leash area for your furry friend, several parks for the little ones, and a skate park for the middle ones! Grab a coffee from Too Many Chiefs just across the road, and enjoy all the boisterous mischief. There is also amble space to set up a great outdoor workout space, or run around the graveled parameter of park, if you are so inclined.
St Kilda Botanical Gardens is much slower paced, with it’s winding paths and sprawling gardens. The perfect spot for a Sunday picnic in the park, and just a hop, skip and a jump from Elwood. Highly recommend ordering a picnic hamper from Fitzrovia and pulling up a rug under the shade for the afternoon.
FemmeFit loves local, and what better place to be amongst than 3184! Elwood is such a rare find in the middle of suburbia. With its eclectic vibe and sea breeze, you are transported to a coastal retreat less than 10km from the CBD. There is a local comradely I am yet to discover in any other Melbourne suburb, and an abundance of cute pooches to boot. A lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon ambling through the many boutiques and eateries after a morning workout is a weekend must.
